Antique Textiles Sing
TALKING THREADS
Horse Blanket Chore Duster sourced at RENNINGER’S Extravaganza from Dayne @irawheatco
Sometimes I have to live with a textile and sometimes the textile sings to me before I begin a design.
Broken Star sourced in Round Top from Tenny @thingsa.t.roches
Often these antique fabrics dictate to me the type of garment they will become. Size, color, pattern and texture have importance when planning a design but before making a commitment to cutting these cherished cloths there can also be an intangible, soulful if you will, sense of what will come to fruition from well loved pieces.
Sourced in Panama City a real favorite! Just ask my partner in crime Debbie @raggedasscouture
My mission statement is to bring historical folk art out of the attics, closets and cedar chests to transform them into wearable garments so the original artwork can be seen anew and show out the details and workmanship of the hours and hours spent by our talented ancestors.
Camp blanket sourced in Round Top from Carol & Ernesto @tin_hart_tradin_co
Note: So many aspects of my process of sourcing, designing, cutting and constructing garments bring real pleasure to me. When a buyer falls in love with a piece is when the most joy fills both our hearts.
